1555 miles in 90 seconds

This morning dispatch got a call from a driver. She couldn't get to her bus stop at Hamilton and Erie. Police had the area blocked off. So here we have kids waiting to go to the alternative high school in the middle of a police situation. Plus elementary student that will be coming to a bus stop on the same corner in about 15 minutes. So Emy and I get in the car and head to the area. We need to get the kids to an area where the bus can pick them up. As we near the area we see light flashing as traffic backs up. So we pull over to the side of the road and slowly inch closer to the intersection. Them we see it.

The armored vehicle and the SWAT team. I mean full uniforms, bullet proof vests, helmets, and rifles. I feel like I have walked into east L.A. and scene from a police drama. The armored vehicle is on the sidewalk facing the front door of the house. They start letting traffic through to turn west of Erie heading toward Arizona Ave. So I get out of the car and walk up to the police officer directing traffic. I tell him I'm with CUSD transportation and we have a bus stop in the park across the street from the house. He tells me the area is now secure, and that he had seen some high school students early but he though they walked to school. My guess is they thought they would take the day off. I explained that we would elementary kids there in about 10 minutes.
He assured me the area was safe. Now all they needed to do was clean up the area and remove their equipment.
Things are under control are so we head back to the bus compound. We go past the big command vehicle. Right turn on Tulsa over to Jackson. Head south to Detroit. So basically around the block. As we turn onto Detroit we both just bust out laughing. There they are in front of us walking down the middle of the street, surrounded by dilapidated old trailer. A Chicken and aChihuahua.
The chicken is twice as big as the Chihuahua. We just entered some remote village in Mexico. The car scared them and the chicken ran one way the chihuahua the other. If we could have gotten them back together I would have taken a picture with my phone. No such luck. So use a little imagination, and have a good laugh. We did.
